For those who couldn’t wait to get their hands on OSX Lion but then realised that Pro-Tools didn’t work anymore after the upgrade, I have some good news for you. Avid has released Pro-Tools 9.0.5 update which includes BETA support for OSX Lion.

Pro Tools 9.0.5 is an officially qualified and recommended update for all Pro Tools 9 and Pro Tools HD 9 users on Mac OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard) and Windows 7. Although not officially qualified, Pro Tools 9.0.5 also adds public beta support for Apple’s OS X Lion operating system.

As usual the update package is not small and you need to have a full version of Pro-Tools 9 already installed to use this update. The update is available here from the Avid website along with the Read Me which explains all the issues that have been fixed in this release.

Watch out for the “Mac Defender” malware

Posted: 3rd July 2011 by dB in Apple

A recent phishing scam has targeted Mac users by redirecting them from legitimate websites to fake websites which tell them that their computer is infected with a virus. The user is then offered Mac Defender “anti-virus” software to solve the issue.

This “anti-virus” software is malware (i.e. malicious software). Its ultimate goal is to get the user’s credit card information which may be used for fraudulent purposes. The most common names for this malware are MacDefender, MacProtector and MacSecurity.

Apple released a free software update (Security Update 2011-003) that will automatically find and remove Mac Defender malware and its known variants. For removal information please refer to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4650 For more information on the malware check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_Defender
